Over the years Julie Terestman's work has continued to evolve. Early on it was primarily functional and highly decorative. Each ceramic work has always been unique and one of a kind. Some were theatrical, playing off a range of many different historical references. In 2009, she began developing another distinct body of work. While still using the vessel shape, it is no longer concerned with function. The scale is larger, and the decorative aspect has become minimal, while color and form have taken precedence in the exploration of inner landscapes. This minimal quality has infused the current functional work as well, giving it a peaceful presence.

Alongside her ceramic work, Terestman has also been deeply committed to meditation and the practice of Zen Buddhism. She continues to practice and teach Zen at the Village Zendo, a Zen center in New York City.

Julie Terestman was born and raised in New York City. She received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and her BFA from Program in Artisanry at Boston University. Since 1989, she has been working in a studio in Jersey City, and her ceramic work has been featured in New York and around the country. In NYC  her work is available at Sara Japanese Pottery and Liz O’Brien Gallery . It is also available at Patrick Mele’s Shop in Greenwich, CT. and in South Hampton, LI at Jeff Lincoln Art & Design

She teaches ceramics in NYC at Greenwich House Pottery.
